This is a great read for folks who believe their dreams aren’t attainable. This book provides great insight into the corresponding struggles of an aspiring musician from homeless to orchestral elite. Dr. White writes in a plain-spoken, straightforward style, doesn't embellish, just presents a clear narrative of his life story, and these words hit more than hard enough just straight up, no water. Most of us wouldn't have survived his childhood of abandonment and want, but he did, and then it was music that literally saved his life. Something of a page-turner, you don't want to put it down, because there is always a challenge around the next corner: schools, auditions, finances, employment, the trials and tribulations of a) overcoming poverty and then b) becoming a professional musician, and there are many. But Dr. White always manages to overcome them. "Each of us must become our own superheroes," is how he puts it. Hats off to him for writing this thoughtful book. When it comes time again to update my titles "Extraordinary Comebacks: 201 Inspiring Stories of Courage, Triumph and Success" and "Classical Music Saved My Life," I would be eager to include his inspiring story in each.
